Graco Nautilus 3-in-1 Car Seat, Matrix Review

Graco Nautilus 3 in 1 Car Seat, Matrix
I bought this seat because of the high weight rating for the 5-pt harness. My son is big for his size & I was afraid he’d outweigh any seat I bought him, before he was ready to move on to a belt positioner or booster. At 2 years old, he’s already 37″ tall and about 40 pounds. So I was pleased to see the higher weight rating for the 5-pt.

We’ve had this seat for a while and so far it has been great. It’s really easy to get him buckled in, and I like the guard that goes behind the connector - it keeps the hot pieces of the harness from touching my son when the metal clips are warm from the sun or summertime temps.

I even traveled with this seat, taking it with me when I went to see family. I was able to install it in my mom’s vehicle with no problem, and have taken it in and out of several vehicles with little fuss. It adjusts easily, and I like that I can quickly move the headrest up when it’s time to go up a size. I don’t like having to rethread the harness, because I have to uninstall the seat to do so (our Eddie Bauer seat’s harness raises WITH the headrest). But it’s not terribly difficult — just mostly inconvenient.

While I like a couple of the features of our Eddie Bauer seat better, this seat has a higher weight rating for the 5-pt harness, and the cup-holder is built in. It’s not on the other one & it seems a little flimsy. So having this built-in holder on the Graco is nice. I also like the rubberized coating on the arm rests. It’s soft enough, and easy to clean.

Overall, I’d highly recommend the seat and buy it again.

About Graco
In 1942, Russell Gray and Robert Cone formed Graco Metal Products, in Philadelphia, PA. For 11 years, the firm fabricated machine and car parts for local manufacturers. In 1953, Gray left the firm, leaving Cone as sole owner. Cone decided to manufacture his own line of products, but had trouble coming up with ideas. Enter David Saint, an engineer, tinkerer, and stained glass artisan who worked for Graco. Saint, himself a father of nine, was intrigued when an associate told him how his wife would soothe their tired and cranky baby while swinging in a backyard glider swing. Acting on this inspiration, he went to the drawing board and 18 months of hard work later, the world’s first wind-up infant swing, the Graco Swyngomatic, was born. Graco sold millions of Swyngomatics in the coming years, becoming one of the world’s leading manufacturers of juvenile products in the process. Today, Graco is a Newell Rubbermaid company, with 1500 associates worldwide. While a half-century has brought many changes to Graco, their dedication and commitment to designing and manufacturing top-quality products remains, and continues on.

Great seat - E. Murray - Texas
We ordered this seat on amazon. I saw it in person at target and it was 10 dollars more.
We love the seat so far and my son really loves it too. I like how it has compartments on the side and a cup holder. I think my husband is jealous, lol.

Some cons:
There are no good instructions for installing it in the car.

The recline position is about a 1/4 inch difference.

Who designed these buckles anyway? - Chalko - USA
The seat itself is nice enough, but the buckles are so annoying!!! I have been through quite a few car seats for my kids and this is the first one where I actually worry about being able to get my son out of his seat. Not many people commented on this, so maybe it is just my luck to get one where I have to struggle every time to open it. The straps get twisted very easily, and the buckles are very finicky about where and how they will open. You have to push on them in *exactly* the right spot and the right pressure. It can be extremely aggravating when you are in a rush and you can’t get your kid out of the car.

GREAT car seat!! - cautious mommy - VT
I am a car seat fanatic and do A LOT of research before making what i consider to be an extremely important purchase. This car seat is heavy but to me that means durable! My daughter loves, i’s easy to install and use and i won’t have to buy another car seat for her again. I would highly recommend this!!
